What is a collapsed lung?

abapatted lungs occur when the air accumulates between the thoracic wall and lungs. When this happens, the lungs will not be able to spread and breathing becomes painful. The medical term for this is pneumothorax .

The lungs usually collapse due to direct chest injury, but on some occasions the condition may occur without cause. Chest injury can result in broken ribs or pierced lungs. Damage without injury may include asthma, pneumonia and other lung disease. Cigarette smoking was also associated with the condition. There may also be a continuous severe cough and pain may be felt in the shoulder muscles. The pulse of the suffering can become fast and the veins can protrude from the neck.

If these symptoms appear, the doctor should be consulted immediately. The doctor should be called even if the symptoms are only temporary. Pain can have serious basic causes.

The physician must perform a number of tests to diagnose the collapsed lungs. Is one of theX -ray rays and, if necessary, calculated tomography (CT) chest scan. Pneumothorax can only be omitted by X -ray. Symptoms can be alleviated in the short term by pressing the pillow on the thoracic wall. This will relieve pain if the collapse was caused by chest and rib injuries.

The more serious type of collapsed lungs is called pneumothorax voltage . With pneumothorax voltage, the air begins to build under pressure and can cause serious damage to the cardiovascular area. There will be severe low blood pressure and may be fatal if it is not treated.

Treatment for severe collapsed lungs consists of removal of the captured air through the needle inserted into the chest area. The needle is connected to the in the Christmas, and the decompression removes the air from the chest cavity. In this way, a simple pneumothorax can also be treated.

Once the lungs are treated, the ongoing visits are requiredat the doctor. X -ray and physical examination will continue until the doctor has given everything clear. If the collapsed lungs were not the result of injury, there is 50% chance that it repeats.
