What Is a Dental Abutment?

The abutment is an auxiliary device for the implant in dental restorations. After the implant is surgically implanted, the abutment will also be permanently attached to the implant through surgery. The abutment extends to the outside of the gum to form a gingival penetrating component, which is used to fix dentures and other orthodontics (prostheses). If the implant itself contains a complete transgingival section, no abutment is required.
