What Is a Fetal NST?
Refers to non-stimulating fetal heart rate monitoring. Through this test, the change of fetal heart rate during fetal movement is observed to understand the fetal reserve capacity. The response type indicates that the fetal central nervous system is well developed. More than 99% of the fetuses are safer within one week, but there is also a false response type in high-risk pregnancy. Non-responding type indicates fetal asphyxia.
Nst
(Medical scoring method)
- Non-irritating
- Do 20 minutes
- (1) Reactive type
- (1) The response type indicates that the fetal central nervous system is well developed, and more than 99% of the fetuses are safe within one week; however, there is also a false response type in high-risk pregnancy. Recommendations: Repeat NST times 1-2 times a day. Combined BPS, B-ultrasound and umbilical artery blood flow detection. When necessary, CST measures the fetal intrauterine reserve function.
- (2) The non-response type indicates asphyxia. About 20% of unresponsive NST have a poor prognosis. However, the use of sedatives and fetal sleep by pregnant women should be ruled out. Suggestions: Repeat NST times or extend monitoring time to 120 minutes. Apply various methods to stimulate the fetus. If there is no response to NST twice, OCT or CST can be detected. Combined BPS, B-ultrasound and umbilical artery blood flow detection.
