What is the Sgot test?

When the liver is damaged, enzymes known as aminotransferases are released liberally into the bloodstream. One type of enzymes is called aspartate aminotransferase (AST), which also passes through the name of serum glutamic oxalocetic transaminases (SGOT). Before prescribing some drugs or when the liver disease is suspected, the physician may order a routine blood test called a Sgot test to make sure that this enzyme is not very concentrated in the blood - a clear signal of deeper health problems.

Children or adults suspected of liver disease or even hepatitis have a common set of symptoms. These include jaundice or yellowish, skin, dark yellow or even orange urine, frequent nausea and vomiting and even swollen stomach area. These symptoms may also be caused by certain types of drugs that doctors must know before prescribing other drugs. These drugs can be antibiotics, pain relief as common as aspirin and ibuprofen or northern drugs fromWritten to reduce cholesterol, seizures, depression and cardiovascular tension.

SGOT The test will be ordered to see if the excess of this enzyme is released into the blood, indicating the need for further testing. Sgot or AST is present in several organs such as heart, liver, kidneys, muscles and even the brain. If a high level is discovered during the test, this may be due to damage to one or more of these organs.

On the other hand, another common liver enzyme called Alan's aminotransferase (ALT) is primarily found in the liver. Also called the serey glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), the blood test for ALT/SGPT will help doctors to find out whether the liver or other organ has been damaged. The SGOT test will often include a SGPT test.

High Alt or AST levels found during SGPT or SGOT tests do not necessarily mean liverpiece. Some kinds of damage orMuscle tension can produce higher levels of aminotransferase. Viral hepatitis tribes also cause these levels to rise, as well as rare disorders such as hemachromatosis, Wilson's disease, celiac disease and allecerative colitis. To approach a particular failure, the red flag found during the SGPT or SGOT test often causes doctors to order additional tests. This is called the coagulation panel, the level of albumin, the number of platelets, and bilirubin tests that analyze the liver damage.
