What is Amazia?

Amazia is a condition in which the mammary gland is missing, but there is a nipple and surrounding aureola. Most often, Amazia is in the nature of iatrogenic, which means that it was caused by a doctor, although it is possible for the condition to be congenital. The most common reason for Amazia is surgery to remove the mammary gland performed as part of the cancer treatment program to cut all cancer tissue so that it cannot metastasize neighboring organs.

The closely related condition is amastia. In amastia there are no whole breasts, including the mammary gland, nipples and aureola. People sometimes accidentally use the term "amastia" to reference to Amazia, although these two conditions are different. There are several treatment options for patients who want treatment.

Once the mammary gland is absent, it will not be possible to produce milk and the treatment of Amazia or amastia is usually done for cosmetic reasons because some women feel uncomfortablewithout one or both breasts. The treatment involves inserting the breast implant to fill the tissue and the nipple can be moved simultaneously, as the implant can change the position of the nipple, causing breasts to appear strange. Patients who have children may be able to breastfeed from intact breast if only one has been removed or will have to bottled; For mothers who want to use breast milk to feed their infants, can sometimes be available through a dairy bank.

In women who have breasts or both breasts removed during breast cancer treatment, surgery known as mastectomy, sometimes the reconstruction can be performed during surgery, although some surgeons prefer to wait. In young women who do not develop breasts, the doctor can offer the breast implant as a possibility after it turns out that the patient has gone through the adolescence and any further growth is unlikely.

There is another reason for iatrogenic Amazia; Trans gender men may decide to be belowUPI surgery to remove breasts to bring their bodies into matching with their gender identity. In this particular case, no treatment is desirable for the missing mammary glands because the patient specifically decided to remove. During the surgery, the nipple and aureola will be moved so that after recovery they will sit in the correct position on the chest of the person.
