What is a black hairy tongue?

As the name suggests, the black hairy tongue is a state in which the tongue turns black and somewhat hairy appearance. It seems that the tongue may also be brown, yellow or a little orange, although disturbing gloom will almost always be constant. In most cases, this is not a serious condition and is caused by bacteria. For starters, this is a benign condition and is not symptomatic for a serious or life -threatening disease. If someone wakes up in the morning, they shouldn't be too afraid. This is a temporary condition caused by an excess of oral bacteria. It usually disappears on its own, without any medical treatment. Bad breath is also common, as well as the feeling of gag. What seems to grow hair on the tongue, is the piliform papilla - the small bumps on the tongue that makes it abrasive - which have been prolonged due to bacteria. Despite all this, the only reason someone might need to consult a doctor if symptoms persist for more than ten days.

Although bacteria are culprits that cause black hairy tongue, the reasons why such bacteria develop are open to the debate. There is probably poor oral hygiene and normal bacteria in the mouth can undergo a change if one uses antibiotics. Some products of oral water and acid relief products - especially those containing peroxide or bismute, could contribute to the problem. Heavy smoking almost certainly makes one more susceptible to this condition, as well as severe consumption of coffee or tea.

Treatment of this problem is simple - the individual should ensure that the teeth of the fluoridated toothpaste after each meal. Flossing teeth every day is a preventive measure and a way to help dispel black hairy tongues. This is especially true because one ages, because the condition becomes more common with age. Last but not least, people should follow conventional wisdom to keep up with regular dental meetings, follow the dentist's instructions and participatewith regular cleaning.
