What is infibulation?

Infibulation is a procedure that involves closing or preventing genitalia as a means to prevent sexual intercourse. Women's infibulation involves the removal of clitoris together with part or all opinion. This is followed by sewing or narrowing of the vaginal hole and leaving a small opening large enough to allow the flow of urine and menstruation. Men's infibulation involves pulling the foreskin of the penis over the glasses and fastening the structure, causing erection to be very painful or impossible. Infibulation of women and men is also referred to as mutilation of female genital organs (FGM) and infibulation of male genitalia (MGM). There was also a preservation of chastity between gladiators and athletes who thought they would have better performance when it was chaste. The Greeks also believed that infibulation prevented the voices of young singers to change when they reach puberty. Today, MGM is a popular form of body piercing among young men and is said to increase sexual performance rather than suppress it.

It is believed that women's infibulation came from in South Arabia; Then he spread to Africa, where he is still practiced primarily on young girls as soon as they reach puberty. The purpose is to reduce sexual desire, ensure that the young woman remains the virgin until marriage and increases sexual pleasure for the future husband. However, the experience of many women who have undergone progress involves painful or difficult intercourse. In some cases, a husband or one of his female relatives will enlarge the vaginal opening using a small knife to allow contact. Reinfibulation is also performed every time the wife gives birth to a child.

In some African communities, FGM religion is a practice. In others, the female genitals are considered ugly or offensive, and it is believed that the removal of external genitalia causes a woman to cause more hygienic and aesthetically pleasing. FGM is expected to increase fertility. A woman who has been "circumcised" is considered to be more marriages and culturally andmore socially acceptable. Unccurcumcized women avoid, calling derogatory names and denied access to certain positions and roles that "adult" women can occupy.

There is currently a global effort to end the practice of female infibulation because it is said that it violates the fundamental human rights of women. Young girls often have no idea and unwilling participants. This procedure is performed under non -hygienic conditions and often threatens the health of these young women. Many of them bleed to death due to bleeding, experienced postoperative shock and suffered from painful menstruation and infections. Those who survive FGM often remain with psychological scars that will never recover.
