What Is Mucinous Carcinoma?
Mucinous adenocarcinoma is a histological morphology of adenocarcinoma. More than 50% of the tumor's components contain extracellular mucus pools, which are common in the gastrointestinal tract. It is caused by a variety of reasons. The clinical symptoms are mainly manifested in the digestive tract. Endoscopy and imaging can assist inspection. Treatment methods include surgical resection and radiochemotherapy. The prognosis is related to patient age, tumor staging, tumor location in the gastrointestinal tract, tumor margin, size, histological type, and grade.

Basic Information
Causes of Mucinous Adenocarcinoma
- 1. The causes of gastric cancer include
- (1) Daily diet Excessive salt intake is at risk for gastric cancer and precancerous lesions. Other foods associated with some high-risk groups include smoked or cured meat and fish, pickles and spicy peppers.
- (2) Bile reflux The risk of gastric cancer will increase after 5 to 10 years of gastric surgery, especially when the surgical method is Bi type II, which can increase bile reflux.
- (3) Helicobacter pylori infection
- (4) Excessive cell proliferation
- (5) Oxidative stress response
- (6) Interfering with antioxidant function
- (7) DNA damage
- 2. Causes of bowel cancer include
- Diet and lifestyle, chronic inflammation, ulcerative colitis, Crohn disease, modifiers and radiation exposure.
Clinical manifestations of mucinous adenocarcinoma
- Gastric cancer
- As many as 50% of patients may complain of nonspecific gastrointestinal dyspepsia, but early gastric cancer often does not cause symptoms. Symptoms of advanced gastric cancer include persistent pain in the upper abdomen, which cannot be alleviated by eating. Ulcerative tumors can cause bleeding and vomiting. Tumors block the gastric outlet and cause vomiting. If systemic symptoms such as loss of appetite and weight loss appear, the tumor has spread.
- Bowel cancer
- Blood loss and anemia are common clinical manifestations, and many patients experience changes in bowel habits. Other symptoms include fever, discomfort, weight loss, and abdominal pain. Some patients have complications of obstruction or perforation.
Mucinous adenocarcinoma examination
- Histopathology
- More than 50% of the tumor's components include extracellular mucus pools. The two main growth methods are: glands are composed of columnar mucus secreting epithelium, and mucus is present in the interstitial gland cavity; cells are scattered in a chain or irregular string. Floating in a slime lake. Mucus is also seen in the glandular stroma.
- 2. Endoscopy
- High-resolution endoscopy can detect small changes in the mucosal surface suggestive of early cancer, including color, image contours, and structure. Endoscopy of early lesions can be improved by endoscopic staining.
- 3. Imaging examination
- X-ray diagnosis after barium meal can be screened. Percutaneous ultrasound or CT can detect the presence of liver metastases and distant lymph node metastases.
- 4. Cytological examination.
Mucinous Adenocarcinoma Treatment
- Combination of surgical resection and radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The prognosis is related to many factors such as patient age, tumor stage, tumor location in the gastrointestinal tract, tumor margin, size, and histological type and grade.
