What is neurolysis?

The term neurolysis almost exclusively means treatment of pain by destroying the nerve responsible for it. This may have an application in the treatment of several diseases, including chronic diseases of pain on the limbs. However, it is most often used as a means of controlling pain in cancer people. Even in these cases, the development of more successful nerve block techniques, where the nerve is only temporarily deactivated.

There are several different ways to perform neurolysis. One of the most common methods is the injection of the chemical into the nerve that kills it, and the chemicals that can be used most are alcohol. Injection may need to be repeated several times to make the nerve fully deprive of its ability to function. Heat or radiofrequency can also be used to kill nerves and in extreme scenarios, the nerve may be removed by surgery. The chemical form of neurolysis is often preferred because it is the simplest and most patient tolerate the procedure.

Some clinics of chronic pain offer neurolysis for other conditions, especially the conditions of chronic pain that seem to have no drug or defined origin. The use of this procedure in any of its forms in a way that is experimental may not always be something that health insurance companies will support. If a patient suffering from chronic pain is provided to use this tactics, he should ask about the probability that the insurance company will return for it. When a disorder of cancer, surgery, injections or other means of destruction of nerve is generally considered quite standard and therefore coverage.

The destruction of the nerve, even if it can alleviate pain, can also have some side effects. Especially if a neurolyle near the spine occurs, there is a low risk of paralysis in the area supplied by or elsewhere. This risk is considered to be a relatively low risk, provided the experience of the doctor performs the procedure. HoweverFor example, the procedure is not without risk.

There are some alternatives to neurolysis that have become more acceptable. One of them is a temporarily blocking nerve function through anesthesia, in procedures called nerve blocks. This means that it may be necessary to deliver more medicines to the body to continue control of pain, but some people prefer to harm the nerve forever or for a very long time.
