What is ophiasis?

Ophiasis is a pattern of baldness that usually occurs in the zone in the area from the top of the ears down. Its name comes from the Greek word Ophis, which means a snake, and is a reference to the way in which hair loss pattern is woven around the head in a similar way to a reptile. This condition is one of the types of alopecia areata, a condition where hair is lost in specific areas of the body and especially in the head. Usually starts in one place and over time it spreads slowly.

The primary cause of the state is considered to be a disruption of the cycle of hair follicles. The phases of this cycle are Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. Ophiasis begins when follicles are damaged during anagen or growth period. This can cause the body to go through catagen or regression, periods and rest time, telogen, too quickly. Without the right time to regenerate, another anagen cycle will produce very little or no hair in areas with damaged follicles.

Although ophiasis most often develops in young people, it is known to appear in whatCoop of age. The condition seems to affect men and women with the same frequency. Overall, it tended to be a rare disease.

Ophiasis is usually one of the most difficult forms of alopecia areata for treatment. Although there are many cases of alopecia in which the hair eventually grows back, the chances of re -re -re -restraints between patients with ophiasis are much lower. This is mainly because medicines that are usually administered using shampoos and gels tend to have delayed efficiency in this particular part of the body.

In addition to the real hair loss, there are only a few other symptoms of ophiasis. Usually the only other sign is the appearance of offset or other abnormal formations in the nails. This is due to the loss of keratin similar to those experienced in her hair.

The condition is autoimmune disease. Patients who have this type of baldness will often suffer from allergies, hypothyroidism, asthmaM and other problems associated with the immune system. Most individuals who develop will have no other skin condition.

There is another similar state called Ophiasis inversus, in which the same hair loss formula is in the opposite formation on the head above the ears. He is also known as Sisaipho, which is ophiasis spelled back. Individuals with this condition usually have hair around the area under the ears.
