- Red man syndrome is an adverse reaction that occurs after taking (or topical) certain drugs.
- Clinical manifestations are: skin or mucous membranes are red or or orange. Erythema congestion, itching, etc. on the face, neck and trunk,
- The mechanism is that the original drugs and metabolites are orange-red, which releases histamine in the body, (possibly) causing urine, feces, saliva, tears, sweat, and sputum to be orange-red or red.
- Drugs that can cause this reaction after taking it are vancomycin, Wanjunya, teicoplanin, rifampicin
- Entering vancomycin within 10 minutes can cause skin flushing in the neck and trunk, or red neck.
- Rapid bolus injection or intravenous drip of Wanjunya can release histamine in the face, neck and trunk with erythema congestion and itching (so each intravenous drip should be more than 60 minutes)
- Overdose of rifampicin eye drops can also cause red man syndrome
