What is Tenesmus?
Tenesmus is the persistent feeling that it needs to pass through the bowels, regardless of the actual physical need to release solid waste. This may result in the involuntary person trying to pass the stool. The person on the condition releases a small to any fecal matter when he tries to pass on the stool. This can cause pain in the rectal area and result in building solid waste in the intestines, so the abdominal muscles feel cramped.
The condition is usually a symptom of another basic medical problem affecting the rectum or intestine. This may be the result of bacterial intestinal, rectum or digestive system infections. Tenesm can also be caused by other, more serious diseases that prevent the proper work of the intestinal system.
Crohn's disease is an incurable condition that causes gastrointestinal irritation due to abnormality in the immune system. The body fights against substances from everyday digested foods that are normal because they intend to be behind the Disease nebo bacteria. This can result in irritation and cause swelling and pain in the gastrointestinal tract. Swelling and pain can spread to the rectal area and cause tenesmus.
Tenesmus can also be a symptom of anorectal abscess, pockets filled with pus in or near the rectal area. The abscess may occur if the anal gland is clogged or bacterial infection around the rectum. Bacterial infections may occur in infants who wear diapers because their bare skin is constantly exposed to fecal bacteria. It may also occur in adults due to sexually transmitted diseases caused by anal sexual intercourse. Anorectal abscesses are usually not serious and can be easily treated.
The condition may also occur as a symptom of colorectal cancer. In more advanced cases of colorectal cancer, a tumor may form in the rectal area. Matter can irritatearea and cause it to block the end of the stool.
Because tesesm is usually a sign of other conditions, usually recedes as soon as the other problem is treated. If it is a complication of Crohn's disease, drugs can reduce gastrointestinal irritation or surgery can be performed to repair any damaged intestines. In the case of anorectal abscess, the pus pocket can be treated with the procedure for surgical removal of pus. Further infection can be prevented by maintaining the anal area of pure and disinfected or using condoms during anal intercourse to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Tenesmus, which is a symptom of cancer of colorectal cancer, may end after cancer treatment.
