Localized bone abscess
Acute suppurative osteomyelitis, which is not cured in the acute phase, is converted to chronic osteomyelitis, where the local lesion is not completely eliminated and remains in the center of the metaphysis, limiting it to not spread to the surrounding area, and forming a circular sclerosis zone around the lesion . The local symptoms are not severe and there are no systemic symptoms.
It mostly occurs in young adults, and it is more common in the upper end of the tibia, the lower and upper ends of the femur, and the ends of the long bones such as the upper end of the humerus.
The central part of the metaphysis is a round, oval or irregular osteoid destruction area with relatively neat edges. It is surrounded by a sclerosing zone without periosteal reaction.
