What Should I Do after Amniocentesis?

Amniocentesis is performed with a puncture needle inserted into the amniotic cavity, and amniotic fluid is drawn for examination. It is an important means to understand fetal development and prenatal diagnosis for treating fetal disorders or aborting pregnancy. After the second trimester, the amniotic fluid mainly comes from the leakage of fetal urine and amniotic membrane epithelium, which contains exfoliated cells, enzymes, hormones and fetal metabolites of the fetal skin. Therefore, checking the components of amniotic fluid can reflect the condition of the fetus.
