What is Geotag?

Geotag is geographical information added to different types of media, such as photos, videos, websites and summary of rich pages (RSS). Included data are usually only geographical and longitudinal coordinates, but may also include altitude, distance names, distance or locations. Geotag helps site users find information specific to the location. For example, an Internet browser can find pictures taken near the location when the coordinates are entered in the search engine. Web surfers can also use geotagging to find messages, websites and other sources specific to place.

Geotagging is based on position information. This metadata or other file information is usually derived from the global positioning system (GPS) and based on latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates. Many mobile phones have built -in GPS that allow automatic geotagging. Some digital cameras also have this performance.

There are several onlinesites that simplify the geotagging process. The Twitter Social Network page allows users to geot their messages and images. Some photo sharing websites allow users to add metadat geotag information when recording photos from a digital camera.

Blogging and social network sites satisfy mostly mobile users. Geoblogging adds geographical information to the blog items via Geotags. Marking social networks with geographic information allows friends to watch each other. Users can even use it to maintain their daily activities.

position information can be inserted into the website via META, which are HTML elements that provide specific search engine information, but users are visible. Meta mark can include coordinates. Region, place name and altitude can also be coded in ZNačka.

Retail and Tour of WEWEB ISM and other electronic trading sites that have physical locations can benefit from using geotags. They help customers search items or services to find what they are looking for in a particular place. Geotag information can also increase the web rating in search engines.

Some Internet users are worried about geotagging personal data protection. Giving out specific location information can open users to undesirable interactions. For example, a blogger, which publishes a controversial topic and geotags its position, may find itself gaining threats or adherence. Someone who blogs from the café and includes Geotag in his post can warn a thief that he is not at home.

One way to alleviate these security concerns is to limit the amount of information revealed. Some bloggers decided to include location information without being too specific. They can include the name of the city in their geotags but not the exactcoordinates of their location.
