What is parallel ATA?

parallel ATA, or simply ATA, is a term used to describe a standard connection from a computer storage device to the motherboard. The connection consists of two or three 40 connectors connected to the belt cable. One end of the cable plugs into the ATA parallel socket on the motherboard. The second end plug to the rear of the hard disk unit, CD-ROM drive or other storage device.

ATA letters are for advanced technology connection. As long as the serial ATA was introduced, the parallel ATA was just called ATA. The word parallel is used to describe how information moves. The parallel device uses several strands of wire to move more information at the same time. In the ATA parallel device, the strip cable, a thin cable containing many individual wires, moves at a time 16 bits of information.

The socket has two rows of holes. One line has 20 square holes. The second line has 19 holes with space between eighth and 11 openings. The parallel plug ata has a pegthese holes. Some pins ground the device while others transmit data.

Atta parallel cable can have two or three connections. If the cable has three connections, two different storage devices can be connected to it. Both devices are named using a binary system. The first device is therefore referred to as 0, while the second is 1.

When using a parallel ATA, only one operation can connect at a time. This is known as serialized operations. This means that if the two units are connected using the same belt cable, Drive 1 must wait until the drive 0 is not completed. Newer versions of parallel ATA technology allow the overlapping function. However, most disks do not support this feature.

ATA technology was first developed by Western Digital at the age of 80. At that time it was called integrated power electronics (IDE). This name is often used interchangeably with ATA.

The ATA standard is maintained by the International Information Technology Standards Committee (Incits). Incits is a group of information technology developers created in 1960. It is accredited by the American National Standards Institute.

Because the information moves on a second, the number of wires is reduced from 80 to eight. This allows smaller cables that occupy less space inside the computer.
