What Is a Web Cache?

Web caching (or HTTP caching ) is an information technology used to temporarily store (cache) Web documents (such as HTML pages and images) to reduce server latency. The web cache system saves a copy of the documents that pass through this system; if certain conditions are met, subsequent requests can be satisfied by the cache. Web cache systems can refer to either devices or computer programs.

Web cache can be used in various systems (from the perspective of the transmission direction of Web content):
In 1998, the DMCA increased the provisions of the United States Code and waived the copyright responsibility of system operators for caching purposes. [1]
