What are hand floats?
Hand floats are specialized tools used by craftsmen and workers working with building materials such as plaster and brick cement. After the material is originally applied to a spatula, the workers then allow the mixture to solidify sufficiently to remain stationary, except for the upper surface. At this point, they use manual floats to smooth out the application as much as possible to provide an elegant and professional look. The name "float" comes from the way the tool slides over the surface of the texture, almost as if it was floating in the air. It is questionable which size or length is best and largely depends on the actual task; Some craftsmen will use a particular hand float for each project, while others will rotate through several depending on the Overall size of the working area. There are also bull floats, which are most often made of magnesium and have handles that extend their total range from 4 to 10 feet (1.2 to 3.1 meters). Trowels are notHand floats - the hand float is designed to quickly remove roughness on a large area, while the spoon is used for accurate completion, which meets professional standards.
When using hand floats on the concrete slab, the overall timing is necessary. If the float is used too early on the surface, the surface is likely to move and distorted, but if too much time falls and the surface is solidified, the concrete hand float becomes, but worthless. The key is that users start to smooth out the concrete while it is still wet on the surface, but without too much overall giving, and if the timing is off, additional water can be added to the surface. Many professionals will work in pairs in terms of completion of hand floats, especially on larger projects.
When using hand floats on plaster and plasterboard, the process is very similar. After the mixture is applied toGypsum, a hand float is used to quickly smooth the plaster before it has a chance to harden. Because the gypsum sets much faster than concrete and can often be more difficult to work with, the hand bed is often used immediately after the overall appearance looks smooth.
