What is Bibcock?

Bibcock is a faucet installed at an angle of downwards. This design, also known as Sillcock, is especially common for outdoor faucets and some types of sink. Most hardware and plumbing suppliers carry Bibcocks along with spare parts, and people can also think of their own or order them for their own applications. People sometimes refer to the outdoor faucets of this design as a hose bibby, which is a reference to the fact that they are most often used to connect for watering hoses, car wash and similar tasks. They may include attachments such as screens to even distribute the water flow, as seen on many kitchen sinks, along with the extender of hoses and faucets. Between the connection and the faucet, it is usually necessary to seal to prevent water leaks around the thread. Bibcock can be controlled by different valves and taps, usually located near the faucet so people can easily turn it on and off.

Depending on the materials used, the durability of Bibcock may vary. Those designed for outdoors are usually heavy and may have structural elements designed to prevent frost. This may be important in a cold climate where the pipes can explode in a cold crack and escape water, leading to further damage as well as waste. Often the pipes are isolated jackets, but Bibcock must be left and a bad design can be vulnerable to frost. To prevent water supply contamination, valves designed to control water return can also be required.

A common BOBOCKS problem involves release over the time of the valve used to control the taps, leading to leaks. Sometimes the seal can be replaced, but in other cases it may be necessary to replace the valve. The water supply should be switched off before this KIND work and it may be necessary to call the plumber if the plumbing is difficult or if the tap replacement does not seem to solve the problem.

in someCases may require people to install Bibcock for security or other reasons. Suppliers will learn more about the water code requirements in the region and can provide information on compliance with these requirements during construction and reconstruction. Plumbers usually install compatible accessories and supplies when they perform installation and repair work, and sometimes they can recommend changes in the plumbing system to be compatible with the code.
