What Is a Container Crane?

Container front crane, English name reachstacker or reach stacker, referred to as front crane, commonly known as container front crane or front crane. Container front crane is a kind of crane used for loading and unloading containers. It belongs to a type of lifting equipment and can also be said to be a mobile machine. The container front crane is specially designed for 20-foot and 40-foot international containers. It is mainly used for container stacking and horizontal transportation in docks and stack yards. Compared with forklifts, it has flexible maneuverability, convenient operation, good stability, and wheels. It has the advantages of low pressure, high stacking layers and high utilization rate of the stacking plant. Cross-box operation is possible. It is especially used for the loading and unloading of containers in small and medium-sized ports, railway technical stations and highway technical stations, and can also be used as auxiliary equipment in large container terminals.

Container front cranes are generally not classified. Although containers are divided into large boxes and small boxes, the size of the crane of the container front crane can be adjusted according to the size of the container. [1]
The container front crane consists of three parts: engineering machinery chassis, telescopic boom, container spreader, etc. The chassis has the engine, power shift transmission, front axle, rear axle, steering system, cab, frame, counterweight, wheels, etc. Components; telescopic boom has telescopic cylinder, pitching cylinder, boom and other components; container crane has rotating mechanism, upper frame, coupling frame, bottom frame, telescopic frame, telescopic cylinder, anti-roll cylinder, side shift cylinder, spin lock cylinder and other components .
The container front crane has retractable and left-right container spreaders, which can be used for 20-foot and 40-foot container loading and unloading operations. When lifting a container, the front crane does not have to be vertical to the container, and can operate at an angle with the container. After lifting, the spreader can be rotated to pass through the narrow aisle. At the same time, the spreader can be moved 800mm to the left and right to facilitate box alignment and improve work efficiency during lifting. For freight stations with poor site conditions, the front crane can also work normally.
The telescopic boom can be loaded with luffing. The take-off and landing of the container is completed by the boom's telescoping and luffing. When the boom is extended and the pitching cylinder is extended, its lifting speed is faster and it is locked at the same time when lowering In, you can get a faster descent speed. During operation, the vehicle can simultaneously perform walking, luffing, and boom telescoping operations, which has high work efficiency.
The general operation process is:
  1. Unload the container above the truck;
  2. Stack containers at the container yard;
  3. Grab the container and move to the place you want;
  4. Load the container from the yard to the truck [1] .
