What is a live curtain?

Live hinge, sometimes called bending bearing or flex bearing, is a flexible material segment, usually made of some type of plastic that combines two rigid surfaces. The hinge is flexible, allowing it to bend. This type of hinge is most often used to connect the lid to the container in a one -off packaging.

While similar curtains can be made of materials such as fabric or leather, the term "live curtain" applies specifically to materials made of some type of plastic. Such curtains are usually injection molyl, which means that the plastic is injected into a hard mold, and then removed when set. Injection pressing is fast and cheap and the amount of material needed for a live hinge is relatively minute, so such curtains are generally cheap options.

Despite low costs, such hinges are unexpectedly strong and can take much longer to expect. Standard hinges generate friction between moving parts, leading to wear. Made from one piece pLast, living curtains physically do not interact with any other part, so no friction is generated, which increases the life of the hinge.

different types of plastics are used for different scenarios. Polyethylene and polypropylene resins are popular materials because they have low fatigue. This means that they can be bent many times without cracking or failure. The hinges that are unlikely to be bent more than several times are sometimes made of less fatigue materials such as nylon resin.

Foldable packaging is the most common use of live hinges. Such curtains can be seen on packages for objects from cleaning needs to children's wipes to food items. Cases made of plastic, such as soap containers or pencils, often also use living hinges. Another common use, perhaps less obvious to the general public, is the production of microelectromechanical system borrowing are the circuits used in the normalCH electronic devices, including phones, computers and televisions.

Live hinge, which is able to bend several times before failure, is known as a fully elastic curtain. Fully plastic hinges can only bend several times. However, elastic plastic hinges can bend hundreds or more.

Designing a live hinge that will take as long as needed requires careful calculation and a solid knowledge of physics. The angle to which the curtain must be opened, along with the elasticity of the plastic fibers used, are critical factors in the life of the hinge. The structural engineers must understand exactly how much tension will be on the hinge to determine the correct thickness and material for use.
