What is a quarry?

The quarry is a large deposit of rock, such as granite, which is mined for use in construction projects. The quarries can be found around the world and most of them contain a severe concentration of a particular type of rock, such as marble, limestone, slate or gypsum. In many nations, the word quarry is used interchangeably for two types of quarry: gravel pits from which gravel and particles are extracted, and dimensional stone quarries, from which large pieces of rock are extracted for use in the building. The dimension stone is used to produce tiles, flag stones, counters, roofs and other projects that require large uniform stone boards. The shallow pit is dug into the rocks, which leads near the surface, and the pit slowly expands to remove valuable rock material. If the quarry is used to extract gravel or fill, explosives can be used to break it before removing and loaded into trucks. If the dimension stone is required, the excavation process is more careful to ensure that the stone is not damaged.

When the quarry is in active operation, it must be protected from leakage of groundwater and rain, or turns into a small pond or lake. Many quarries are surrounded by a moat of impermeable material to prevent leakage, and are also covered to prevent the accumulation of rain in an open pit. In some cases, pumps may be installed to help remove the water from the quarry. The company that has built the quarry also maintains the road to and from the place and sometimes creates a temporary processing center for the rock to be removed, graded and processed on the spot, while the excess has been destroyed on the spot rather than miles away.

After leaving the quarry, it is usually fenced or other ensured to avoid people to get injured there. In some cases, toxins may be present in place due to the way the rock was extracted. In other, as the quarry slowly fills with water, it canbe a tempting place to swim. However, the quarry may pose the risks of swimming objects in water, depth, cold or toxins that could be leached into the water. In some cases, the inactive quarry may be converted into a swimming space with modifications created by safe swimming and recreational areas.
