What is a suspended ceiling?
Suspended ceiling is a type of completion system that is suspended under the ceiling structure in a room or building. It can be suspended of a roof or ceiling deck, which consists of structural frame beams that promote load over and below the deck. Most suspended ceiling systems consist of steel grid and acoustic tiles, although other materials can be used. Metal suspension wires are used to suspend these systems anywhere from three inches to more than a track (7.6 cm to 30.5 cm) under the deck.
These ceilings can be installed through existing plasterboard, uncovered wood framing, steel beams or even ceiling finishes. In a typical suspended ceiling system, the tile is supported by thin metal frames that run in the grid pattern across the room. The wall pressing is attached to the wall around the entire perimeter of the room. The rest of the grid is suspended by hanger wires, although the ends of each section of the grid rest on the wall bar for special support.
the grid can be arranged in 2 'x 4' (122 cm x 61 cm) or 2 'x 2' (61 cm x 61 cm) formula based on a standard acoustic tile size. For these ceilings, recessed fluorescent luminaires are often used and are designed to fit into common grid patterns. Heating and air -conditioning grills can be sold in standard tiles sizes so that they can also fit into the suspended ceiling grid.
Thesuspended ceiling offers many advantages over other types of ceiling structures. Because it is suspended under the deck, the interstitial space can serve as air suppression for ventilation. This space can also be used to hide pipes, pipes and electrical wiring. Since the tiles are easy to remove, it is still possible to approach mechanical and electric equipment above the ceiling for maintenance and service. Systems suspended grids are also relatively affordable and can be installedquickly and easily.
There are also a number of potential disadvantages when choosing a suspended ceiling. Over time, acoustic tiles tend to be yellow and can make the room look dated. They must be replaced regularly and are susceptible to stains and damage due to moisture or impact. Finally, because they are suspended under the ceiling deck, they reduce the overall height of the ceiling in the room. This is often considered unattractive, especially in rooms that already have a relatively low ceiling.
