What is an expansion anchor?

The expansion anchor serves as alternative to traditional screws or nails when fastening the object to the wall, floor or ceiling. Extending anchors that are designed for use in solid materials are often used in wood or masonry to ensure safe and strong binding. The ends of these anchors are expanded during installation to grasp the surrounding surface, preventing the anchor from slipping from the hole.

Home builders and homeowners can use an expansion anchor to attach the image to the wall or hang a pot from the ceiling. These anchors can also be used to secure objects to floors or outdoor paved areas. While the expansion anchor is often associated with concrete or Zdice applications, it is also commonly used in wood and even plasterboard.

In applications involving plasterboard or wood, a plastic expansion anchor may be sufficient. These anchors consist of a plastic housing with wings on the tip. The installation program drills a hole in the wall and manually presses the anchor at the location ofD The head will not be flushed with a wall. When a nail or screw is inserted into the center of the anchor, it forces the wings at the end of the housing to spread the sides. These wings or fins are then able to grab plasterboard or wood from many different angles to hold the object in place.

Metal anchors are usually required to connect to objects in concrete or masonry. These screws consist of a steel case with fins at one end and a standard screw inserted in the center of the housing. Installers start by drilling the hole and then manually insert the screw. Once the screw is in place, a screwdriver or drill is used to tighten the screw. This pulls out the screw inside the fins of the screw and forces these fins on the sides.

Double and one expansion anchors are available to meet the needs of different applications. Individual expansion screws have fins at one end while the cigar expansion screws have fins nand both ends. Two -bacing expansion anchors work well in fragile materials such as soft stone or mortar.

users should remember that the expansion anchor is only as strong as the material in which it is installed. This means that the anchor of the expansion will not hold if the surrounding surface is weak or seriously damaged. The expansion anchors may not be suitable for use in damaged or decaying concrete or softer forests.
