What is brushed steel?
brushed steel or brushed metal concerns a surface surface that has a deliberately scratched look. Small one -way scratches run over the metal surface, causing the reflection of the metal to stretch or blur in the same direction, which is known as an anisotropic reflection. The metal shine is reduced, but it has not lost completely. Anisotropic materials show uneven physical properties along different axes.
For example, wood is naturally anisotropic material. The wooden grain is a manifestation of the direction, texture or pattern of fibers found in the wood and contributes to its clear appearance. The strength and hardness of the wood depends on the orientation in which it is measured. Wood is stronger with grain.
The opposite of anisotropic materials are isotropic materials. Their physical properties behave in the same way in all directions. Most metals such as steel and aluminum are isotropic materials. When the metal is wiped with abrasive materialsmopic properties. Brushed steel appearance can be achieved by polishing metalEM with fine sandpaper, cut discs, Scotch-Brite® pads, Scotch-Brite® wheels, flap wheels, Catex® wheels or synthetic steel wool to name at least some. Each method creates a different appearance and should be experimented with one. Patins are administered by exposing metal of chloride or sulfur compounds.
After polishing, the metal should be cleaned of polishing residues by mineral spirits. Mineral spirits, oil distillate, are fast -acting, odorless, which removes oily residues and prepares metal for oil surface treatment. Leaving the thumb at this stage is not recommended.
In order to complete the look of the brushed steel, acrylic urethane can be applied as a kachchje. This clear coating fills in etched grooves that have left polishing. Leaves the surface smooth and also protects it from another random abrasion, which could distort orbored the required effect of anisotropic reflection. Acceptable coating materials are also clear varnishes, wax or satin.
Many consumer products are made of stainless steel, aluminum or nickel. These are also metals commonly used for brushing. Table lamps, kitchen dishes and top electronics can be served as such brushed metal finishes to add a tint of the class and increase their decorative attraction. Brush steel surface treatment of consumer items is usually emphasized in the catalogs as a selling point and is trumpeted as an expression of a bold contemporary style. Of course, beauty is eventually the eye of the observer.
