What is Elm Lumber?

Elm lumber is hidden from trees in the family ulmus , with several species, including American and English elm, popular among the woodcutters. This wood is known for being very hard and durable, suitable for the production of products from axle to cabinets. It can be expensive and tends to be more common in fine woods and traditional crafts than utilitarian wooden objects. Lumber, usually stored or ordered it at the request of customers. English samples can move into gold and orange. It has tight, even grain that can be dotted with several small nodes. Some specimens have a fine pattern known as plumage, which makes it aesthetically pleasant, one reason why ELM is popular as a surface treatment or veneer for wood processing projects. It can also be crushed, with a complex pattern of small nodes, waves and bubbles.

This wood can be difficult to work without electric tools and excellent wood processing equipment because of its hardness. It's not fragile and shouldn'tburst or split, but it is necessary to handle them carefully. Like other forests, ELM should be allowed to cure the lumber before work and it is important to allow it to adapt to the environment in the store where it will be used. Sudden changes in temperature or humidity can cause reduction and swelling that can destroy the project.

One very popular use for ELM Lumber is like a veneer for finished wooden products or for use in cars. Elm Veneers can be difficult to work with them and people can buy them rather than try to reduce their own if they do not have experience in the production of veneer. Some come up with a strengthening of the pad to protect the wood, as treated and introduced, so that the veneer does not disappear or develop other problems.

Power and durability are useful properties, but Elm Lumber can be vulnerable to insect contamination. Should be kept in a clean, dry environment and may be nTurn to be treated if exposed to insects or high humidity, as it could invite a fungal colony. At the first sign of contamination, it is advisable to clean and treat the wood to prevent spread. Products and wood filling can be used to repair damaged portions, or people may want to consider replacing parts with new pieces of lumber ELM or veneer.
