Does Hypnotism Work?
Hypnosis therapy is to use human cues to induce a state of sleep-like hypnosis through verbal cues. In this state, the patient's verbal instructions to the therapist have a huge impetus, causing more profound changes in the psychological state, thereby reducing or disappearing certain symptoms and significantly improving the disease.
Hypnosis therapy
- Hypnotherapy is the use of human cues to induce a sleep-like state through verbal cues, ie
- The earliest application of hypnosis as a treatment method was Max Meyer, Austria, in 1775. He used magnets as a hypnotic tool and explained the mechanism of hypnosis with the mysterious animal magnetic theory. The scientific explanation is that it is a passive, sleep-like state caused by the healer, and borrowed the Greek word "hypnos" (that is, the meaning of sleep) to "hypnosis" (hypnosis), which has been used to this day the term.
- The specific method of hypnosis therapy is as follows:
- 1. Before treatment, explain to the patient the nature of hypnosis, and explain the steps of the treatment purpose in order to obtain the patient's consent and full cooperation. Second, to test people's suggestiveness, this is the key to the success of hypnosis treatment. There are many suggestive methods for the test. Here are four simple methods to tell the patient to test his nervous system before the test:
- (1) Sensitivity of olfactory test : Use 3 test tubes prepared with water in advance, and ask the patient to distinguish which one is filled with water and which is filled with light vinegar or dilute alcohol. 0 points for indistinguishability, 1 point for the last two, 2 points for the two.
- (2) Test balance function : make the patient stand facing the wall, close their eyes lightly, and breathe calmly for two minutes, then the therapist slowly said in a low tone, "Are you feeling a little unstoppable, and whether you are beginning to feel a little bit before and after?" (Or left and right) shaking, you should focus your attention, try your best to experience your feeling, whether it is a little back and forth (or left and right), back and forth (or left and right) shaking, pause for 30 seconds, repeat the question 3 times, and ask the patient to answer, such as Those who do not feel shaken get 0 points, those who shake slightly get 1 point, and those who obviously shake get 2 points.
- (3) Measuring memory : Let the patient see a color picture. The picture shows a room with a window, blue curtains and two chairs. Take the color picture after 30 seconds. Question: "Is there 3 or 4 chairs in the room? What color are the curtains, light green or light yellow? There are 2 or 3 windows in the room?" If the answer is consistent with the question, it is suggestive. The score is 1 point for each question. If the answer is consistent with the picture, 0 point is obtained. This test can get 0 to 3 points.
- (4) Measure visual resolution : Draw two equal-sized circles with a diameter of 4 cm and a distance of 8 cm in white paper, and write the numbers 12 and 14 (or 14 to 15) in the middle. The patient is asked to answer which circle is large. If the answer is as large as 0 points, the answer is 1 point. Patients can get 0 to 8 points through four tests. The higher the score, the more suggestive the patient is and the greater the possibility of being hypnotized.
- 2. During treatment , the light in the room should be elegant, quiet, and the room temperature should be moderate. Have the patient sit on a comfortable sofa.
- First adjust your breathing to make it calm and regular, and then relax your whole body muscles. Therapists usually use direct or indirect methods to perform hypnosis.
- The direct method is based on the prestige of the therapist, using short, clear, authoritative words or gently stroking the head even if the patient enters a hypnotic state. The indirect method is with the help of "hypnotic drugs" such as the bright lights on the opposite wall, or the monotonous "metronome".
- Generally indirect hypnosis treatment is used. Make the patient gaze or listen to the hypnotic, while the therapist gives verbal cues, using monotonous, low, affirmative, soft words repeatedly to imply that the patient is getting more tired, the eyelids are tightened, heavier, and they can not be opened ..., then Implying that his upper limbs, lower limbs, and the whole body are loose and weak, and the patient enters a hypnotic state as suggested by the healer.
- The depth of hypnosis is generally divided into three: mild, moderate and deep.
- Mild hypnosis : The patient closed his eyes, his body muscles were in a relaxed state, his eyelids became stiff, and his thinking activity was reduced. He could not act as suggested by the therapist. I did nt fall asleep, I heard everything around me, I knew that I could nt and did nt want to open my eyes, I just felt heavy and comfortable.
- Moderate hypnosis : The patient has deeper drowsiness, dull skin feeling, increased pain threshold, and obedience. Afterwards, the patient said that he suddenly fell asleep, then woke up again, and asked him: What did the healer tell him? What did you do? The patient can only remember the words and actions of the healer in the early stages of hypnosis.
- Deep hypnosis state : The patient's feeling is obviously diminished, he can't respond to acupuncture, and can't remember his words and deeds during hypnosis afterwards. In fact, the patient responds and acts completely according to the instructions of the therapist.
- 3 The indications for hypnosis therapy are mainly neurosis and certain psychosomatic diseases: such as snoring amnesia, snoring aphonia or paralysis, phobia, nocturia, chronic asthma, spastic colon, spastic torticollis, stuttering, etc.
- It is better to eliminate certain physical and mental disorders and obstinate bad habits. Generally, mild hypnosis is used to eliminate various symptoms, and verbal cues are directly given to patients under hypnosis, and it is certain that the related symptoms will disappear after waking up.
- Hypnosis analysis can be performed when the hypnosis deepens. The patient can easily speak out the depressed and forgotten trauma to find out the psychological factors that cause the disease. It can also perform hypnotic anesthesia to perform surgery successfully. In addition, hypnosis therapy can be used for collective hypnosis to treat alcoholism or narcotic addicts.
- 4 At the beginning of treatment, 2 to 3 times a week, and once a week thereafter, generally not more than 10 times. At the end of each treatment, the words were used to suggest that the patient should continue to sleep, and then switched to natural sleep. Or tell the patient to wake up after hearing the countdown from 10 to 1, or ask the patient to repeat the count of the treatment person and tell him to wake up to 5 and count to 1. It should not be too hasty to relieve hypnosis, it is better to slowly wake up the patient.
- 5. According to statistics from experienced hypnotherapist Professor Jiang Ping (a famous psychology expert), about 70 to 90% of the population can enter the hypnotic state, and only 25% can achieve deep hypnosis.
- Mild hypnosis or awakening under the guidance of an experienced therapist often implies that a better effect can be obtained. Because the implementation of hypnosis is a serious matter, the selection of patients must be rigorous and generally must be performed by a trained psychiatrist or other clinician and psychologist.
