What is the carotomy?

Carotomy is a surgery in which a cut is cut in the large intestine. This surgery can be performed for various reasons, from the treatment of chronic disease to the need to take a biopsy sample. Carotomy is often performed by general surgeons and can be performed in the emergency environment and in planned or optional. In laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon performs a number of small cuts in the abdomen and uses these cuts to introduce tools along with a camera that can be used to see surgical space. In open surgery, a large cut is made to reveal the abdomen content, which allows the surgeon to clearly visualize the area. Surgery on the abdomen can be very traumatic and general anesthesia is the most effective way to keep the patient comfortable and handle pain. Once the surgery is over, the patient will be taken into recovery and administers pain medications. After carotomy, a hospital stay may be required for several days to allow the patient to recover in the environment where the monitor is availablethe way. After sending homes, the patient may need a few weeks of recovery.

Emergency settings in which carotomy could be used includes a situation in which the patient has swallowed something to remove, or situations where the large intestine and surgeon must be surgery to find damage. Carotomy can also be performed to resect the colon when part of the large intestine is removed to make the tissue samples from the colon and for various other reasons. In the case of the planned procedure, the patient will have sufficient opportunity to discuss the procedure and potential results with the surgeon. In an emergency situation it may not be possible to get into the details of the nature of the procedure.

Carotomy should not be confused with colostomy. In colostomy, a hole is formed in the large intestine to form a feces. This procedure can createtemporary or permanent opening depending on the patient's case. The opening is connected to the colostory bag that collects feces when it is released. This procedure is often performed when the patient has severe colon cancer or rectum.
