What is a failed root channel?

The root channel disorder is the one in which the dentist failed to remove any dead or sick tissue from the infected tooth. The root canals are the treatment of infections that affect the root or pulp of the tooth. Infections lead to pain, dead tissue or even abscesses. In the treatment of the root canal, also called endodontic treatment, the dentist cleans the channel to remove the infected tissue. Problems with the root canal occur when the procedure has not fully removed the sick tissue or when the route was left through which the infection can return.

Obtaining a root canal usually erades the infection and saves the tooth. However, when the root channel procedure fails, it usually means that the dentist missed another channel in the tooth. One of the most visible symptoms of unsuccessful root canal are inflamed gums around the tooth, which means continuing bacterial infection and disintegration. Other symptoms of unsuccessful root canal include pulsating pain that deteriorates, sensitivity that grows more acute and leakage of fluid from the tooth. If the patient notices the symptoms of a failed root canal, he should seek treatment as soon as possible. One solution is for the dentist to remove the old filler material, perform a new root canal and get a better seal. Another option is that the oral surgeon performs the root channel surgery, which usually includes apicoectomy, a procedure in which the surgeon cuts off the tips from the roots of the infected tooth. Sometimes it is necessary to amputate the roots where the root should be completely removed.
