What is gastroplasty?

Gastroplasty, also known as stomach stitching, is a surgery that is generally performed for weight loss purposes. The procedure is often performed under general anesthesia. This usually includes vertical stomach stitching, where it is stitched to create a small pouch and is connected to the remaining parts of the stomach by a small opening. The weight loss is achieved by slowing down the food passage in the stomach, which felt full with less food intake. Other signs for gastroplasty in obese individuals include medical complications such as sleep apnea, ending of breathing at sleep and elevated cholesterol levels that can lead to heart disease. Doctors often follow certain instructions before the recommendation of patients for weight loss surgery.

Gastaroplasty candidates include individuals from 18 to 65 years of age, whose body weight (BMI) index (BMI) is greater than 40 and suffers from complications of obesity such as diabetes mellitus. Good candidates are also those who have made several attempts at mushroomforces for three to five years without successful results. It is also for individuals weighing about £ 100 (45 kg) or more above their ideal body weight. Patients are also evaluated if they are able to undergo surgery. Pregnant women and patients with mental illness, alcohol addiction, severe cardiopulmonary diseases and bleeding tendencies are discouraged to undergo gastroplasty.

After the procedure, patients are usually recommended to follow the prescribed special diet. For the first two weeks of surgery, only pure liquids are allowed, followed by a soft diet or easily shay meals for the next three weeks. Usually they are a solid food in the sixth week. It is also expected that patients will follow some form of regular exercise to prevent further weight gain.

a team of healthcare providers composed of a surgeon,A psychologist, nutritionist and dietologist is often involved in the management of these patients. They are responsible in explaining the surgical process step by step, related risks and benefits and expected results. The normal function of the digestive system is not disturbed in gastroplasting.
