What Is a Meniscectomy?
The meniscus itself has poor blood flow and weak repair power. Once it is damaged, it is difficult to repair it by itself. If it is not treated in time, it can cause traumatic arthritis in the late stage. Therefore, those diagnosed as meniscus injury, discoid meniscus, and meniscal cyst should be removed early. After resection, fibroblasts will be repaired to form fibrocartilage, replacing the function of the meniscus. If handled correctly, it usually does not affect knee function. However, it must be pointed out that meniscectomy is an intra-articular operation. If it is not handled properly, it can cause complications and affect joint function. At the same time, the incision of this operation is small, and the meniscus is tightly embedded between the tibia, the femur, and the epicondyle. It is difficult to see everything during the operation. Only after removal, the injury can be seen. The diagnosis is not appropriate.
Medial meniscectomy
- 1.
- 1. Posture patient lying on his back
- 1.
- 1. Straighten and raise the diseased limb after surgery to reduce swelling and give the necessary analgesics.
- 2. When the patient can tolerate, start and gradually strengthen the quadriceps exercise at the beginning; begin to practice the contraction of the quadriceps, and then practice straight leg elevation. Generally, knee flexion can be exercised within 1 week after operation, gradually increasing its amplitude.
- 3. 3 to 4 days after the operation, open the dressing under aseptic operation and check the knee joint for effusion. If there is any effusion, it should be punctured and exhausted, and then pressure bandaged.
- 4. The suture is removed around 10 days after the operation, and then the joint is checked for effusion. At this time, if the quadriceps muscle strength recovered satisfactorily, and there was no fluid in the joints, the crutches could walk without weights, and the injured limbs became gradually weighted after 3 to 4 weeks. After discharge, the quadriceps and knee flexion should still be exercised. If the recovery is smooth, work can be resumed after 2 to 3 months.
