What Is Mebendazole?

Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum intestinal anthelmintic, which has a significant effect on killing larvae and inhibiting egg development. Both in vivo and in vitro tests have shown that it can directly inhibit the intake of glucose by nematodes, leading to depletion of glycogen, reducing the formation of adenosine triphosphate in the worm, making it unable to survive, but does not affect human blood glucose levels. Ultrastructural observations show that the microtubules in the corpuscle and intestinal cytoplasm of the worm body degenerate, causing Golgi's endocrine particles to aggregate, resulting in transportation blockage, cytoplasm dissolution and absorption, complete cell degeneration, and worm body death.

Indazole

It is used to treat tsutsugamushi, tsutsugamushi, whipworm, hookworm, faecal roundworm, tsutsugamushi, hydatid disease and trichinellosis.

Clinical application of mebendazole

Commonly used amount for adults: 200mg bolus for treatment of roundworm and tsutsugamushi disease; 200mg once for treatment of hookworm and whipworm disease, twice daily for 3 consecutive days; those who have no effect on the first treatment of whipworm and hookworm disease, A second course can be given after 3 weeks. For treatment of ascariasis, 300 mg once, twice daily for 3 days. For treatment of faecal roundworm disease, 100mg once a day, twice a day for 3 days. For children over 4 years old, the dosage for adults is halved.

Mebendazole adverse reactions

The drug has less absorption and fast excretion, so there are fewer adverse reactions. Serious adverse reactions often occur in cases of excessive doses, long medication times, short intervals, or adrenocortical hormones.
1. Occasionally can cause mild dizziness, headache, short time, and disappear on its own. Large doses of long-term oral administration of the drug may occasionally have symptoms of gastric irritation, such as nausea, abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, rash, occasional exfoliative dermatitis, systemic epilation, eosinophil Increased serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, blood urea nitrogen increased, granulocytopenia, etc., can return to normal on their own.
2. In the treatment of hydatid disease, the outflow of cystic fluid can cause allergic reactions after the cyst wall is destroyed.
3. There are dozens of cases that cause encephalitis syndrome, and most of them appear symptoms and signs of psychology and nerves 10 to 40 days after taking the medicine. Mental symptoms mainly include silentness, lack of emotion, thought inhibition, memory impairment, and sharp decrease in computing power; followed by dizziness, headache, walking weakness, convulsions, quadriplegics, incontinence, and other diffuse neurological impairments ; May also be accompanied by varying degrees of consciousness. Physical examination showed changes in muscle tone, hypertenoid reflexes, and positive pathological reflexes. The EEG showed moderate and severe abnormalities, and the slow-wave manifestations were predominant. Cerebrospinal fluid examination may have increased IgG, half of the lesions showed mild inflammatory changes. CT examination showed multiple lesions with low-density shadows in the brain; magnetic resonance images showed increased density of multiple lesions in the white matter of the brain.

Methadazole precautions

1. This product can increase alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and blood urea nitrogen.
2. A small number of cases, especially those with severe roundworm infections, can cause roundworm migration, cause abdominal pain or spitworms, and even cause suffocation. At this time, anthelmintics such as levamisole should be added to avoid this situation.
3. People with diarrhea have less contact with the drug, so the cure rate is low. They should be taken after the diarrhea stops.

Contraindications to mebendazole

Pregnant women, lactating women and infants under 2 years old are prohibited. Patients with liver and kidney dysfunction should be used with caution.
