What are the different types of yarn?

Humanity has been melting natural fibers up to yarn for thousands of years. The remains of the wool yarn were found in Switzerland, which were estimated at 7,000 years, and there is proof that the Egyptians could grow cotton for yarn from 12,000 ° C. The primary function of the yarn is, of course, producing clothes. Somewhere, however, people noticed that yarn could be as beautiful as practical and began to create yarn. Different types of yarn art include weaving, painting, knitting and crochet and setting.

The oldest type of art yarn. The yarn of many different meters and weights was woven to make everything from clothing to blankets and carpets, some of which contain beautiful patterns. The colors used, as well as the complexity of the pattern, represented wealth and condition, and qualified weavers were known and highly valued. In ancient Greece, it was considered a heretical weaving of a flawless work and weavers would introduce a small mistake in their art to avoid insulting the goddess Athen.

The Huichol Indians of the Sierra Madre series are known for their complex yarn painting. The wooden plate is covered with wax and a clearly colored yarn is pushed into the wax to create a circular design similar to mandala. Patterns were usually symbolic in nature, with a deep spiritual meaning for the tribes, and contained many representations of natural elements that were part of their everyday life. Although original examples are rare and generally limited to museums and private collections, modern reproductions are still available.

knitting and crochet are probably the most common form of yarn art. Both processes are quite different, but both include pulling yarn loops through other loops in a specific way to create a stitch formula. Originally used for fashionable clothing, modern filing and crochet has evolved into any underground movement with an angry fan base. Modern knitters and crochet not only produce highly fashionable clothing but also unconventional variety stuffedChildren, pillows, toys and dolls.

Many knitters make their craft a step further and learn the art of felting. To form a felt piece, a piece is knit as usual, except that it is enlarged about 30%to allow shrinkage. Woolen yarn brings the best results. Once the piece is completed and all ends are secured, it is washed in hot water and upset for a longer period of time. The combination of heat and friction causes the piece to shrink and the individual fibers lock and tighten, leading to a strong woolen fabric.

Although weaving is a traditional method of making rugs, in the mid -18th century women began to use pieces of old clothing and blankets to make rugs using a latch hook. When the vessel gained popularity, the yarn came to replace Old Rags, and is still mostly the art of yarn. This technique produces a plush carpet with an open bath, with individual springs of yarn on a clean background. Most modern craft stores sell latch sets with a pre -VZOReded background, hook and pre -cut yarn in the necessary colors.
