What is Lanternfish?

Lanternfish are small, deep fish that belong to the Myctophidae family. There are many genera of lanterns, with hundreds of species between them. In general, their bodies are slim with silver scales and large eyes. All except one fish in the Myctophidae family have organs producing light called photorms, the common name Lunternfish. These organs emit weak blue, yellow or green light, which is assumed to be used to communicate. Lanternfish are extremely important for the ocean ecosystem, with whales, dolphins and sharks who are hard to introduce them. Light -colored species usually occur closer to the surface, while brown or black fish are located deeper in the ocean. The length of the fish also varies, but is usually somewhere between 0.8 inches and 1 foot (2 to 30 cm) long. FOTORS, light-selling organs that are known, grow from different places depending on the species, but are usually on the head or body than from fins or other areas.

Myctophtophidae fish are generally found in the waters of the ocean around the world, including the South Pacific, South Atlantic and Indian Oceans. In most places they are in abundance, unlike their relatives in the family Neoscopelidae. Fish belonging to Neoscopelidae occur only in tropical and subtropical waters and have a similar appearance as fish in myctophidae. In fact, a specific kind of family neoscopelidae, neoscopelus macropidotus even shares a common name, Lanternfish.

These fish are some of many that create a deep scattering layer, also known as a false bottom that refers to a layer of living fish in the ocean. This layer was discovered using sonar technology. In a trap, it was often wrong with the ocean, but scientists were confused when the alleged ocean bottom got up somewhat somewhat towards the surface and approached one morning again. In the end it was theorized and confirmed that the fake bottom with the glassHe gives the sea animals.

Although Lanternfish is hardly rare, there are little known about many species. This is mainly because they are deep fish that were not discovered until the mid -18th century, first. Some species have not been discovered until the 1950s, and scientists still collect information about their migration and behavior samples, as well as how they communicate.
