What is Musc's duck?
Musc's duck is a large type of duck from the North American continent. Technically tropical bird of central and Latin America, but Muscovy can withstand colder temperatures of the United States and even southern Canada. Musc ducks exist in wild populations, but are often domesticated and used for egg production and meat.
One of the only domesticated ducks that were not bred from the more common Mallard is Musc's duck immediately recognizable thanks to a somewhat unusual head. Unlike a smooth green or brown feathers on Mallard, Musc's pink, wrinkled, without a feathers, without a feather, has a similar turkey that can cause the unconscious viewers to suspect that the bird is sick. Musc ducks can be many different colors, including green, black, white, chocolate brown and various combinations.
Musc ducks, unlike many other species, do not form belt pairs. Mating occurs several times a year and may result in up to 15 eggs, but often less than deset. Incubation lasts just over a month and is done only by a woman. The chickens remain close to the nest for several months because they have difficulty regulating body temperatures and require the mother's heat to remain comfortable. Musc ducklings are usually bright yellow when hatched, but slowly darken to brown and develop mature feathers after about a year.
Musc's adult ducks are large and heavy ducks, often recorded as excellent gaming birds because of their weight. Males are about twice as large as women, usually weigh between £ 10-20 (4.5 - 9.1 kg), with captured birds often weigh more than wild. In captivity, birds may be more than ten years, but shorter life is more common. Musc ducks are often quite healthy and seem to be less vulnerable to some infections and diseases that damage other ducks.
There are many interesting facts that make Musc's duck uniqueon. One of the oldest domesticated New World animals, native Americans held Musc's Ducks Captive long before colonial times. Sometimes they are called "scary" ducks, because men are generally only hiss, while women can handle the weak Honking sound. Birds are non -migrant and tend to prefer swamps or freshwater lakes with a relatively mild climate.
The name of the duck has the history of Bemusing. Muscovy is a term for a person from Moscow, but the duck Musc clearly originated in South America. Some believe that the name was formalized by the well -known Carl Linnaeus, who, after his strong, muscular odor, apparently named Musc's duck.
