What is Pelican?
Pelican is a water bird known for its distinctive throat, which it uses to capture its food. There are eight recorded species of pelicans that have been discovered around the world. Pelicans primarily inhabit areas near large water formations, fresh and salt, as well as lakes and rivers.
Eight species of Pelican form the Plecanidae family. Pelecanidae shares the order of Pelecaniformes with their distant relatives of goats, cormorants, Larters, Fregatirs, Gannets and Tropicbirds. Members of these rules live colonly and individual poultry is monogamous. Their descendants are born helpless and require constant attention.
It is generally considered to be two groups of pelicans. The first has gray or brown feathers and nests in trees or in the case of a Peruvian pelican on the rocks. The second group consists of those pelicans with white feathers that nest on the ground.
Brown Pelican is the smallest memberpelecanidae and averages of 6 pounds (2.75 kg), is 3.5 feet long (1.06 m) and has 6 ft (1.83 m) range. Dalmatian pelican is the largest diarrheaMeasure 33 pounds (15 kg) and 5.8 ft (1.8 m) in length, with a wing span of up to 10 feet (3 m). The average account can hold up to three gallons (11.5 liters) of water.
pelicans are carnivores, consume mostly fish, but also amphibians, crustaceans and rarely, smaller birds. They take fish from water with a large throat connected to the bottom of the account, and many species also use the cooperative fishing methods. Birds are formed in a straight line or U -shaped, flying low above the water surface and at the same time beat the wings against the surface. This leads fish to shallow waters where pelicans can easily choose their prey from the water.
Brown Pelican is an exception to this tendency, like Onikrmte, primarily on menhaden, the type of monitor, and use a more aggressive hunting style of diving and irrigation of its prey into your account. The only other species observed using this method is Peruvian Pelican and Australian Pelican, although the occurrence is rare.
Pelicans do not store their captured fish in their cases. Instead, they feed on immediately. If Pelican has young to feed, he opens his mouth and leaves a young bird of feed from the neck, where he has access to regurgitated nutrition.
brown pelican was once considered endangered in North America. As a result of DDT and dieldrin exposure, the eggs of these pelicans would be damaged and were unable to maintain the embryo maturation. The use of the DDT pesticides was forbidden in 1972 and since then the brown pelican has been re -registered and no longer considered an endangered species. Dalmatian pelican is the most precious species of pelican, followed by a narrowly helping. Australian white pelicans are two other most common species.
