What is a red wolf?

The red wolf is a type of wolf's indigenous continent of North America. As the name suggests, this wolf is characterized by a warm red to orange glow of its fur when it hits light, although the actual color of its fur can move from black to gray, yellow to brown and even cinnamon. Depending on whether one considers Red Wolf a separate species or subspecies of the gray wolf or Canis lupus , his complete scientific name will be different. If this is considered a species, its scientific name would be canis rufus ; If this is considered a subspecies, its name would be canis lupus rufus , with the Latin word "rufus" translated as "red". An adult red wolf can reach a weight of £ 80 (36 kg) and a length of 4 feet (about 121 cm) from the tail to the nose.

Historically, there should have been a lot of red wolves in the wild, but because they were dangerous to cattle, they were often hunted and killed. Another factor was to destroy their habitats to create a suitableH land for agriculture and cattle breeding. Soon the red wolves' population decreased and in 1970 they were declared "threatening", but the US Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) collected pure red wolves and launched a reproductive program to increase their population. In 1980, the wolves were declared "extinct in the wild".

Since then, the reproduction program has found sufficient success to re -introduce the red wolf into the countryside, especially in North Carolina. More than 100 red wolves have been released into the wilderness, but one of the concerns of restoring their population is the tendency of wolves to intersect with coyotes. That is why USFWS still maintains about 200 red wolves within the breeding program to produce pure breeds.

The red wolf can be a wild predator, but it is shy by nature and tends to avoid people. But it is a social creature in the sense that he livesAnd he travels with a package that has a similar structure to the family, with his mother, father and children. This wolf usually has a permanent partner for the rest of his life. It is also observed that it is a night animal that uses darkness to hunt food. This wolf likes prey smaller animals such as rabbits, raccoon and rats, but also has the ability to kill deer.

Natural habitat of red wolf would include forests and prairies, with felled trees and the banks of the river as the location of many. A typical wolf's life would be eight years in the wild, but it can be twice as long as in captivity because it has no competing predators. Wolves usually join once a year and always produce about three puppies.
