What is a reform school?
Reform schools basically held places for juvenile offenders and especially focused on holding boys. In the US, the reform movement launched in the 19th century as an alternative to imprisoning younger children with adults, but unfortunately imprisonment in one of many American reform schools was unlikely to cause emotional damage. This treated against the initial intention of the reform school movement. Initially, many people thought it was an excellent thing, that adolescents were given the opportunity to remedy their behavior and find a straight and narrow path before they became adults. It should be said that some people have found the reform they need, although early schools were still created before the great development of psychological theories.
Unfortunately, reform schools also became WhD in places have been abused not only school administrators, but also older children. In the middle of the 20th century, the tendency to be sexually abused in reform schools and many states began to re -evaluate the way the juvenile crime preservedZen, and find alternatives to imprison children and adolescents. This does not mean that the reform school is completely gone, but the standard state or federal imprisonment for youth is called reform schools, and instead are named juvenile remedial institutions. The term reform school has become loaded with many negative connotations.
The idea of reform schools was not only American. In Ireland, a number of schools led by the Catholic Church were intended for "juvenile offenders". Even more than in the US, these schools participated in almost systemic crimes against children. In 2009, Ireland issued documents that confirmed the intzneuji children of children usually priests and/or nuns in 50 of these schools, to which children could be sent from a small thing. Unlike the US reform school, children could be placed in Irish institutions if the parent was considered to be inappropriate parenthood. This higher level of authority in removing childrenFrom homes it can lead to a larger license to abuse.
Today, a term reform school is usually not used unless it is used by private organizations that offer some type of reformation for older children and adolescents. They may vary in the quality of the care they offer, and parents are considering the child's mission to a reform institution should carefully consider the credentials of the people who run it; Some schools are excellent and others have highly dubious practices. There was also a trend to imprison young people for milder crimes. Instead, they can live at home and attend schools that are better trained to handle children's problems. These are often called alternative schools.
