What is Tench?

Tench, the family tinca and also known as Doctor Fish, is a common freshwater fish that can be found in the waters of Europe and Western Asia. It is generally found in Central Europe, although several large populations have been found as far as west as the UK and in the east as in central Russia. In some areas, thin is hunted for food, in others the fish is classified as an inconvenience. They live at the bottom of lakes and dirt and sediment they cause can suffocate eggs of other species.

Tench is a member of the family cyprinidae , which makes it close to genetic in terms of common carp. Like their carp friends, they generally have a short, wide body, small eyes and narrow mouth bounded by beard, similar to dogfish or catfish. However, the main difference between tench and carp is that the first can survive in poorly oxygenated conditions, while the second cannot. Tench is usually green, although the shade of their skin may vary from one end to the body to another. His skin isDecreed relatively strong, dotted with small scales and slimy, similar to eel. Normally they never grow too far in 25 inches (65 centimeters) and £ 10 to £ 12 (4.5 to 5.4 kilograms), and this is unusually large for them.

It occurs mainly in relatively stagnating freshwater locations, such as lakes or slowly moving rivers. The main fish feeds almost exclusively on algae and on various small animals that occupy residence in the mud, although in winter remain in the mud and not eaten. It praises in shallow water between aquatic plants where their eggs can be stored. As a result, waters are still the perfect environment in which it is successful due to the abundance of vegetation and conditions that allow algae accumulation and mud accumulating the jokes was swept through rapid flowing currents. Female fish can lay up to 600,000 eggs every year; For comparison, salmon puts about 2,500 eggs per year and carp can laymore than a million.

Due to their abundance and similarity to carp, Tench is often used primarily for cooking or as a bait for larger predatory fish. However, there are some members of this albino, known as Golden Tench, who are sometimes used to fill decorative ponds because of their highly visible clear orange colors.
