What is Calathea?
Calathea is a genus of permanent plants from the tropical areas of America. They are grown outside their native range as decorations in the garden, houseplants and for commercial purposes. The leaves of several species are used as food packaging and in container construction because they are large and very durable. Gardeners who are interested in cultivating Calathea may be able to find a plant in a kindergarten or ask teammates about getting adult plant divisions.
leaves are simple and scattered by different colors, depending on the species. Some types of Calathea produce extremely large leaves, while others are more modest on the scale. Inflorescence may vary in color from bright red to blue. People growing members of this family as houseplants are usually interested in leaves, because plants can rarely flourish when they are grown inside.
These plants are in Arrowroot Family. Like some other members of this family are sometimes known undercommon name "prayer plant". Other common names for the types of Calathea include a Zebra plant or simply Calathe. These plants are adapted to the humid, warm, indirectly illuminated conditions of the tropical rainforest and these conditions must be replicated to successfully grow.
People living in tropical areas can grow calathea species directly in their gardens. They should choose an area of garden with rich, wet soil and indirect light. Outside the tropics, indoor or greenhouse cultivation is required because the plants need permanently warm, but not hot, temperatures and high humidity. In a house where moisture is often low, gardeners can use moisture or often spray plants to maintain a high level of moisture. If a number of tropical plants are grown, keep them in a room -sized room can be a more efficient way to keep them happy.
while Calathea likes to remain moist, these plants do not like growing in wet, wet soil. The soil should be regularly checked for moisture and it is important to use water at room temperature to prevent the plant shock. If the plant seems to dry or bothers, common reasons may include excessive heat or cold, placement in direct light, lack of water or too much water. While these plants can initially be gentle as soon as they are established in a space where they are comfortable, tending are doing well.
