What is Laburnum?
Laburnum is a genus with two types of a flowering tree in the family of pea. Plants in this family are also called a gold chain that have abundant bright yellow flowers and are as a result of popular garden plants. They are also poisonous and potentially fatal, if they are ingested, so children and pets should be supervised around the plant. It was also historically used to make bows. These trees are originally from the mountains in southern Europe and are also called false eben, because the wood of old trees can be used to simulate Ebony. The Heartwood of the Tree is rich yellow while Sapwood is dark and very hard.
l. Anagyroides or common laburnum can grow to a height of 23 feet (7 meters). Fragrant yellow flowers bloom at the end of spring, often in May. l. Anagyroides has smooth bark and dark green leaves and branches. It subordinates to wet climates and moderate temperatures.
l. Alpinum , also called alpine or Scottish laburnum, has longer stems of flowers than l. anAgyroides , but does not form so dense. Most of the labunnice grown in the garden is a hybrid between l. Alpinum and l. Anagyroides , called Voss's Laburnum, which combines the properties of both types. Hybrid also produces less seeds than one of the natural species.
All parts of Laburnum are poisonous and cause symptoms such as convulsions, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhea, and even coma and death. The plant contains poisonous alkaline cytisine. Many cultural references to the plant are a reference to its toxicity. For example, it is often listed in literature as a symbol of danger or death.
Indian legend says Laburnum was once a tree. Krishna's God appeared on earth in the form of a music boy and gave his gold ankle to another boy with whom he made friends. When it was found that the gold ankle was missing from the Krishna status in the temple, the priests accused the boy of stolen him.
although cHlapec claimed that the ankle was a gift, no one believed him because no one else saw Krishna in his human form. The boy threw the ankle on the Laburnum tree, which immediately broke into the flower. The tree is now considered sacred for Krishna and the general name The Golden Chain refers to a flowering similarity to a gold ankle.
