What is lycaste?
Lycaste is a genus of orchids consisting of about 30 species that come in different colors and sizes. Many give strong fragrances that are considered very pleasant. Since they are relatively easy to cultivate, Lycastes are a popular house and garden plants. These flowers have dog -shaped dogs, with wide green leaves that seem to be pleated. The flower has a typical formation of orchids of three inner petals and three outer sepals and the Lycaste Skinneri species is considered one of the most beautiful orchids. It was first discovered by natural scientists George Ure Skinner, who considered it to be the best finding of his life spent by searching for beautiful, rare plants, one of the species even named after him, Lycaste Skinneri. After his discovery, Skinner spent a lot of time to promote the culture and beauty of his finding and popularized it all over the world. In 1820 it is grown as a home race.
Rod is divided into four orchid groupings with similar features that distinguish them from other sections. The Deciduosae section is deciduous, which means that flowers lose leaves during dormancy in winter. Orchids with very long sepla are in the Longisepalae section. The FIMBriatae section usually has a lined labellum and a petal that attracts insects and promotes pollination. The part called macrophylae usually keeps its leaves during the sleeping period.
Lycaste orchids were originally found growing in the cloud forests of South and Central America, from Mexico to Brazil. Now they are grown around the world. They pass with a humidity range of 50 to 70 percent. The ideal temperatures are between 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius) with a daily range of 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (23 to 26 degrees Celsius) - deciduous species can tolerate an even wider temperature range.
Lycaste orchids are usually grown in clay pots in a fine mixture of bark and perlite or sphagnum moss. Must beConnected often and heavily, it should not be allowed to dry completely. They should be regularly fertilized, especially if they produce new dogs. Orchids need a lot of bright sunlight and fresh air and grow very well in the temperature conditions found in a typical house, making them ideal houseplants.
