What is mammillia?

Mammillaria is one of the largest and most diverse subgroups of the Cactaceae plant family, commonly known as the Cactus family. The genus contains perhaps up to 300 different types of flower cactus. Its name comes from the Latin word for the nipple "Mammill", a somewhat funny description of meat bumps called tubercles, which usually cover cacti. In fact, it is a common name for cacti of the Mammillaria Cactus nipples; Plants are also referred to by common names Fishhook Cactus and Pincushion. Most mammillarie species are very easy to grow and maintain, so cacti of this family are popular as pots or outdoor plants.

Since Mammillia contains so many unique species, many species look very different from the other. Most species have a small and medium size and are covered with protrusions that give the plant its name. However, the shape of plants and their needles often differ very much. Mammillaria cacti can be round, oval or shaped like cylinders or a group of cylinders.Their spines will vary in length and structure, some of which have softer, softer spine that resemble hair, and others with sharper, brimmer spines. Some nipples do not have cacti at all.

These cacti come from America and many species can be found in Mexico. In their native desert environment, Mammillia Cactis is used to dry or sandy soil and hot day temperatures that can penetrate sharply at night. The flowers of these cacts are usually visible only during the day when it is warm. Like many other plants, these flowers differ in shape and color and can be yellow, red, pink or white. Cacti also have fruits that monitor flowers, which can be a large source of seed for fans of cacti who want to grow and reproduce their own cacti.
