What is Taekwondo?

Taekwondo, also written Tae Kwon Do, is Korean martial arts with roots reaching for about 2,000 years. He is known as the Korean National Sport and is now an athletic event at the Olympic Games. Taekwondo uses movements such as helpers, circular houses and skipped kicks, sometimes in conjunction with spinning and bouncy maneuvers.

The term taekwondo is derived from three Korean words: tae , which means kick or destruction; kwon , which means hitting or struggling with fists; and to , which means a method, path or way. Put together, the essence of Taekwonda can be considered as a "way of hand and legs".

According to Taekwondo followers comes the basic philosophy of Taekwondo from ancient form of martial arts called Taek Kyon , which reaches back to 50 BC. taek kyon was considered one of the martial arts practiced hwa rang to , the elite team of young new warriors who were instrumental in the unification of the Three KingNotified, which once formed Koguryo, Paekje and Silla. These kingdoms were united around 660 NL under Silla. It is assumed that the Code of Ethics, which was governed by hwa rang to today is the basis for the honest code of Taekwonda.

While the ideals of art are rooted in the past, techniques and combat forms used in modern Taekwondo are studied. It is generally assumed that modern Taekwondo is a merger of various martial arts. For example, in World War II, many Koreans trained in Karate Japanese and karate soon reached Taekwondo.

Taekwondo distinguishes between six belts. The student begins with a white belt that symbolizes the innocence of aabsence of knowledge. After successful completion of the class, the yellow belt moves. Yellow is supposed to mean some teaching, similar to roots - the roots of knowledge begin to stick.

The student then advances to the green belt. The student now grows in TaekwOndo and begins to hatch the leaves of learning. Another phase is the blue belt, which represents the high goals of the student - the student is compared to the stem of stretching in the sky. After another study, the student will receive a red belt. Red is the color of the danger and warns the student and his opponents of his skills and knowledge.

Finally, if more than 16 years of age, the student receives a black belt. Students under 16 will receive poon , a belt that is half red and half black. The student is therefore ready for even more complicated learning and starts his ascent to higher dans, or series.
