What is Riaa?

RIAA is an abbreviation for the Recording Industrial Association of America, which consists of large companies that supervise the recording and distribution of music in the US. Approximately 90% of recording companies or distributors are RIAA members. The objectives of the Association are now primarily directed to copyright protection. This is a big change since the foundation of Riaa in the 1950s, where the biggest problem was the standardization of the quality of vinyl plates and later cassettes. When Napster was first available at the end of 90 years, most people suddenly had the opportunity to download music without paying for it. Also combustion drives and copying the album have become more frequent with computer technology.Aring programs such as Napster and also tightening the limitation of copyright laws. In the first first decade of 2000, several laws were adopted to increase sanctions for those who violated the copyright law by illegal copying of music, either from a computer source or purchased CDs. Riaa also a focusShe joined the youth at a college in a number of campaigns for discouraging illegal downloads.

Not all consider the current Riaa mission to be logical or reasonable. Critics point to increasing the sales of the CD during the Napster era, and there is a conclusion that limiting sharing or free downloads are actually contrary to RIAA goals to help music artists and recording studies. Critics also claim that Riaa is slightly more than just an organized crime enterprise that tears artists who receive a relatively small compensation for the sale of CDs while setting CD prices for high gains of labels.

Riaa opponents point to court proceedings regarding copyright infringement against unsuritude. One court was adopted against a 83 -year -old woman, another against a 12 -year -old girl and a third against a woman at her 60. These and other litigation have been criticized by many and damaged the credibility of RIAA.

In 2003, Riaa released an amnesty and decided not to pursue those who have practiced illegal downloads in the past. Those who would lose the previous copyright infringement would not be prosecuted if they promised not to do it again. Few people actually answered this offer and the amnesty ended a year later, because the amnesty of Riaa did not protect one from civil lawsuits individual record companies or artists.

In a less controversial form, RIAA is also responsible, if it is asked to monitor the sale of records, resulting in labeling "gold" or "platinum" depending on the number. A little more controversial is the unusual support of artistic freedom, as interpreted in the 1st amendment. Many of them find this one of the finer points of RIAA because it allows freedom of expression and expression and will support artists who are attacked for controversial texts.
