What is the anatomy of Lamella?

The slat is a thin, stiff structure similar to the board. Etymologically comes from the word lamina , which means "small plate". The slats are generally layered, alternating with a slat, then a thin layer of liquid, then another slat.

This structure occurs considerably in biology because it has two advantages. The lamellar structure provides a power of material with less weight than a comparable thickness of solid material and less fragility than a comparable solid weight of the material, such as the difference between corrugated cardboard and paper. The lamellar structure also increases the surface area and, depending on the fabric that the slat is made, some substances could be able to slowly penetrate the slat, allowing it to be used as a filter or delivery system.

In humans, the primary example of the lamellar structure is found in the Haversian channels. Named for Dr. Clopton Havers from the 17th century, who first published his description, these slats are the annular channels running in parallel with the surface of the bone, which uIt requires capillaries to carry oxygen and nutrients into bone cells. Nerves and lymphatic also pass through Haversian channels.

There are several other references to the lamellas in medicine.
