What is acetabular labrum?
Acetabular Labrum is a cartilage circle surrounded by opening acetabula, a cavity similar to a socket in the pelvis into which the head of the femur is inserted to form acetabulofemral or hip. Also known as the glenoid hip labrum, it is a ligament that holds these two bony surfaces together. Like any bonds, it is formed by a dense, fibrous tissue sufficiently strong to prevent the separation of the bones it connects. However, the acetabular labrum serves for further purpose: adds the depth of the hip socket to help prevent subluxation or dislocation of the femur from the pelvis. Ilium is a pelvic bone in the shape of a butterfly. Its lower limit is formed by the upper surface of the hip socket. Under the Iliem is ischium, the curved bone of the lower outer pelvis. Its highest boundary is the lower rear part of the acetabula. Next to Ischia is a pubis, another curved bone of the lower pan, whose upper outer boundary is formed by the lower front surface of the hip socket.
These three adjacent pelvic curves together to form one continuous bone surface on both sides of the pelvis. Each acetabul in the shape of a cup points outwards and slightly forward and down, while the acetabular labrum is ringing either opening. The adjacent thigh bone has a head that angles inside and slightly back and up from the main body of the femur. This ball -shaped head is inserted with a ring of acetabular ligament and enters the hip socket, where it achieves a large degree of movement by turning inside the joint.
by browsing the acetabular labrum at the entrance to the acetabula, the head of the femur is buried a little deeper inside the joint, reducing the probability that it can be pulled. In addition, the acetabular labrum effectively narrows the circular opening into the acetabulus, which also helps to hold the femur. As such, subluxations of femoral heads are unusual, although they can be seen in athletes who play contact sports such as football. Any heavy wound, which would drive the top of the femur and/or out, can cause the hip joint to dislocate. An example of how this may happen can be a footballer who will deal with from behind.
