What is a media pterygoid?

Medial pterygoid is the face muscles that are located inside the jaw. It is almost a vertical muscle, its fibers run from the inner surface of the upper jaw, just behind the upper teeth, to the angle of the jaw, which is a curve in the corner of the jaw. Also known as internal internus pterygoid or pterygoidus, it is used for chewing. By increasing the jaw closes the jaw. It also has less jaw movements on the side. The deep head, which consists of most of the muscles fibers, comes from the inner part of the bony surface known as the lateral pterygoid plate. Found on the sphenoid bones, the bones in the shape of a butterfly on the inside of the face, the lateral pterygoid plate is the surface of this bone, which protrudes the furthest towards the two sides of the face and is located behind the top row of teeth and in front of the ear. The deep head of the medial pterygoid is based on the inner surface of this board.

superficial head of this muscle, head closer to the skin, corresponds to fromand much smaller part of the inner surface surface of the pterygoid. It arises from the surface to Maxille, from the bone of the upper jaw, known as the maxillary tuberosity, which is a rounded bone meaning on both sides of the maxilla near the teeth of upper wisdom. The superficial head also comes from the small area of the rear outer corner of the palatine bone, which is a flat bone that forms the roof of the mouth.

From these points of origin, the fibers of the medial pterygoid muscle, which has a quadrilateral shape when it intersects the jaw. This muscle, which slightly fishing outwards and back, as it descends, connects along the inner surface of the angle and the jaw ramus. At these points of insertion, the fibers of the media pterygoid are connected to the fibers of the Master muscle, the main chewing muscles of the jaw. This common insert point allows you to help the Master in lifting the jaw during chewing and other final movements.
