What Is a Myelin Protein?

Myelin basic protein is a flexible single-chain polypeptide, approximately 18.5 kD, located in the dense myelin sheath and nucleus pulposus. MBP has not been confirmed in rough endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, or any other organelle. MBP can be used as a marker for oligodendrocytes, Schwann cells, and Schwann cell tumors. This antibody can be used as an element in the definition of myelin, in multiple sclerosis, experimental encephalomyelitis and other central nervous system diseases. This antibody stains myelin basic protein.
