What is sagittal sinus?
sagittal sinus is a large vein found in the human head. This vein travels at the top of the skull, starts at the top of the skull and moves to the back of the skull. At this point, the vein is divided into two parts and works to transfer the blood back to the heart from the vein. Two parts of this vein are known as superior sagittal sinus and lower sagittal sinus.
The excellent sagittal sinus is sometimes referred to as a superior longitudinal sinus. This sinus is above and behind the human brain, but inside the skull known as a skull. This location allows the veins to move from the top of the head to the back of the head. It is generally believed that the backbone liquid known as cerebrospinal fluid is exhausted to the superior sagittal sinus from arachnoid granulation, small valves responsible for the transport of cerebrospinal fluid. The lower sagittal sinus allows blood vessels to bridge the head area from the center to the back of the head. This sinus travels from Falx Cerebri to Corpus Callosum. Falx Cerebri is a sickle -shaped stringKtura, which tends to calcify with age. Corpus callosum helps to give the human brain the ability to coordinate sensory and motor impulses.
cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, often simply referred to as CVST, is a health condition affecting both excellent and lower sagittal cavities. CVST is a type of stroke that occurs due to a blood clot in the cavities. Symptoms of this condition may include headache, sight changes, muscle weakness affecting the face and libsy on the affected body parts and in some cases seizures. In general, treatment begins with prescribed medicines to prevent blood clotting. In some cases, urgent intervention to remove clots and support fluid outflow from the brain may be required.
Traumatic brain injuries can also lead to damage including sagittal sinus. If this type of injury exists, surgery is often necessary. A prognosis in this situationdepends on the extent of damage. If the blood flow is endangered for a longer period of time, the normal function of the brain may not be restored.
